Fiordland Experience - New Zealand - Short Break - 4 nights from $1350 per per person twin share

Fiordland is one of the most dramatic and beautiful parts of New Zealand.

Carved by glaciers over 100,000 years the landscape is one where waterfalls cascade hundreds of metres into deep black fiords; where ancient rainforest untouched by man clings to mountains and where shimmering lakes and granite peaks look as they did a thousand years ago.

Fiordland National Park is a World Heritage Site and includes Milford, Dusky and Doubtful Sounds. Milford Sound was described by Rudyard Kipling as the Eighth Wonder of the World.

Day 2: Queenstown – Doubtful Sound – Te Anau
Immerse yourself in the untouched wilderness of Doubtful Sound. Home to abundant wildlife, you may see bottlenose dolphins and fur seals at play, or catch a glimpse of a rare Fiordland Crested Penguin. Your excursion into the pristine fiord of Doubtful Sound begins with a cruise across Lake Manapouri to West Arm. Then, join your coach to travel the sub-alpine road through the dense rainforest. Board the catamaran Patea Explorer for a cruise through some of the fiord’s most stunning scenery. When you discover Doubtful Sound you will be struck by its silence – a silence broken only by birdsong or the rushing of a distant waterfall. Its beauty and vastness will take your breath away. Later, return to Te Anau.

Hotel: Distinction Luxmore Hotel (Standard) or Distinction Te Anau Hotel and Villas (Superior), Te Anau.

Included Meals: Breakfast and lunch

Day 3: Te Anau – Milford Sound
Travel through Fiordland National Park to Milford Sound on one of the most scenic roads in the world. Travel through native rainforests, beech forests, alluvial flats and meadows. You’ll visit Mirror Lakes where, as the name suggests, you can see the stunning mountain scenery perfectly reflected in the waters of the lakes. Then on to the Homer Tunnel, man’s attempt to master the sheer rocky ranges, still left rough-hewn around the edges. As you emerge out the other side of the tunnel, you are presented with one of the world’s most dramatic alpine drives, down through the Cleddau Valley. Time to rest at the Chasm, where the roaring Cleddau River has carved its way through solid rock, and then it’s on to Milford Sound for your overnight cruise on the waters of this natural wonder. Cruise the full length of the Sound to the Tasman Sea, accompanied by a specialist nature guide. The style is relaxed, allowing plenty of time to view the fiord’s spectacular waterfalls, rainforests and wildlife. Anchor in a sheltered cove and explore the surrounding area in kayaks with your expert guide. Or simply relax on deck.

Hotel: Milford Mariner (Standard or Superior), Milford Sound (Cruise).

Included Meals: Breakfast and dinner

Day 4: Milford Sound – Queenstown
Today you’ll embark on your return journey to Queenstown. The rest of the afternoon is yours to do as you wish. This evening why not consider a cruise across Lake Wakatipu aboard the TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak High Country Farm for a gourmet barbecue at the Colonel’s Homestead? An entertaining farm show provides a glimpse into high-country farm life. Then return to Queenstown to sample the festive nightlife.

Hotel: Copthorne Hotel and Resort Queenstown (Standard) or Millennium Hotel, Queenstown (Superior), Queenstown.

Included Meals: Breakfast

Day 5: Farewell from Queenstown
Your short break concludes this morning after breakfast. You’ll be transferred to Queenstown Airport for your onward flight (flights anytime).
